L&T’s objective is to utilise waste and by-products as efficiently as possible. Collected waste materials are sorted and processed so that they are acceptable as industrial raw materials for the manufacture of new products in accordance with sustainable development.
For example, sorted plastics are processed into granulates that are used as raw material in the plastics industry. L&T will also start re-refining waste oil back into raw material for the lubricants industry.
The recycling of materials substantially reduces the use of natural raw materials and thus reduces the burden on the environment. If waste material is technically or economically unfeasible for use as raw material for new products, it may be suitable for use as fuel in energy production.
