Cottage

Correct information is the basis for responsible and good environmental management

Finns are active users of summer cottages. More and more people are spending time at their summer cottage or recreational home also outside primary holiday seasons. It shows environmental responsibility to act sustainably in one’s everyday life and environment and to minimise the burden on the environment. L&T wants to make sure that everyone knows the basics of sorting and recovery.

Sorting and recovery of waste will save natural resources as many parts of sorted waste can be reused as raw materials. Some of the waste is burned to get energy. Composting turns waste into useful compost soil. When sorting and recovery work well, only a small part of waste ends up in a landfill. This is also L&T’s objective.

Keep in mind what you have learned, as sorting is not done just for fun. It benefits us all.

Environmental management at the summer cottage requires independent initiative

Environmental management at the summer cottage requires more independent initiative than in the city. Wastewater treatment requirements, sorting of waste and opportunities for recovery vary by locality.

Sort and compost

Try to recover your waste to the best extent possible. Sorting will reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills and promote recovery. Decomposable waste belongs to a well-maintained compost. Do not bury your waste or litter the environment.
