Waste management in outdoor areas

The waste collection point shall be located along the normal routes of people and garbage lorries, sufficiently close to a maintained driveway. For the sake of safety, waste containers and shelters should be located at least eight metres from the wall of a building or in a locked space so that a fire cannot spread from the containers to the building.

The waste collection point must be placed so that the containers can easily be emptied with a garbage lorry. Long distances for transporting the waste containers may result in increased costs. Safety and usability is improved if the route from your home to the waste collection point is easy and you do not need to look out for garbage lorries.

Voluntary cleaning of outdoor areas

Large properties and also smaller properties should order an extra interchangeable platform for voluntary cleaning work, maybe jointly with a neighbour. For cost reasons, you should not place items such as refrigerators or televisions on the same platform with garden waste and sand, for example.  It is most preferable to sort one type of waste onto each platform. Hazardous waste that requires more demanding treatment, such as a refrigerator, will increase the costs of recoverable cleaning waste.

Tip

Collected clean sand can be stored and reused in the next winter. The popular L&T sand container 350 can conveniently store sand for reuse. Sand that is free of garbage can also be used as filler material on your own property. It is prohibited to take sand or other cleaning waste to public green areas.
