Trust must be earned

”When you plan a job well and do it properly the first time around, you can complete it more quickly. Thinking before you act is also important with regard to your personal and your co-workers’ safety”, stresses Esa Puolakanaho, an industrial cleaning technician.

Esa’s job comprises washing, dry vacuum cleaner and sewer work. ”I got a job with the company in the early 1990s when it was still called Säkkiväline. In those days, I lived in Raahe while working in Oulu and doing one-off jobs anywhere between Tornio and Kemijärvi.”

His current customers are large manufacturing plants in the metal and chemical industries in Pori and Harjavalta. The job requires strong expertise, meticulousness and the observance of safety aspects.

”My job is rather independent by nature. My supervisor has learned to trust me and give me responsibility. Certainly, though, the pace of work is dictated by customers’ needs. When we have worked in partnership with the same customers for a long time, it feels as though we were part of their staff. In a sense, it is the customers who pay our wages, making their appreciation all the more important.”

”In my opinion, this job can also be a good fit for youngsters looking to get a start in the job market, provided they have the right attitude and a willingness to learn the job properly. There will be plenty of work in this business in the future, and this is an employer that provides many types of support for its employees. As a father of small children, I appreciate the fact that the company has been very flexible when it comes to, for example, work shifts.”
